On March 15, 2009, Sunday please join the Rotary Club of Makati West’s GIFT OF LIFE CHARITY RUN. Registration for 10k and 3k events are now ongoing at selected Planet Sports and New Balance stores. By joining this race, YOU can make a difference for the numerous children born with heart defects. This race is organized by eXtribe, the same organizer as the New Balance race in Clark last November.

The race will start at the back of the NBC tent at 6:00AM for the 10K and 6:10AM for the 3K category.

About the Gift of Life Project
Rotary Club of Makati West’s Gift of Life project is a life-transforming charity project that saves lives of children with congenital heart defects. In the Philippines, there are over 1,000 indigent children suffering from Congenital Heart Defects that are on the waiting lists of four (4) major hospitals. Congenital heart patients suffer from general weakness while being susceptible to pneumonia and other respiratory and cardiovascular complications. Without surgery to correct this medical condition, the patients will die in most cases or if they survive at all, do not live normal and productive lives.

RCMW’s Gift of Life project has existing partnerships and cooperative arrangements with five (5) partner hospitals namely, Philippine Heart Center, Makati Medical Center, Asian Hospital, Philippine General Hospital, and Iloilo Doctors Hospital, participating doctors, and pharmaceutical companies. This unique network of volunteer organizations and professionals has helped bring down significantly the high cost of an open heart surgery that would normally be beyond the means of the family of the child beneficiary.

Through charitable donations and funds raised by the Club over the years, infants, toddlers and children up to the age of 17 with congenital heart defects have been successfully operated on and have fully recovered. As of to date, 117 surgeries have been completed successfully. Not only were the lives of the children saved but they have been given the new opportunity to grow up and become productive citizens of the country.

About Rotary Club of Makati West
The Rotary Club of Makati West (RCMW) was founded in 1969 by young, passionate and concerned individuals whose pursuit of their dreams of success in their respective fields of endeavor included helping the less fortunate members of Philippine society. The Club continues this 39 years of tradition of service by actively leading and initiating many socio-civic and charitable activities that benefit our less fortunate brethrens.

From its inception, the club has been steadfast in observing the Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”. And on the basis of this principle RCMW has successfully established partnerships to launch and sustain projects that include, among others, the Gift of Life Open Heart Surgery, Hemangioma Facial Deformity Operations, Harelip and Cleft Palate Operations, Artificial Limbs and Gawad Kalinga.
